The Ford Crown Victoria – An American Classic

Often when we talk about classic cars, the image that comes to mind is of a small, sleek sports car that, for all its beauty, looks as though any collision with anything larger than a tennis ball would leave it irretrievably damaged. This is less true of American classics, as where the European manufacturers of the past would tend to favor a more sleek, sporty look the American manufacturers were more in favor of a rugged look, aiming for the kind of car that looked as though it could handle rough driving without needing repairs costing almost the same as the initial purchase. The Ford Crown Victoria – in all of its incarnations – is an example of this. It has been around in one form or another for more than fifty years. Now that is durable.

In fact, the first Crown Victoria hit the road in 1955. They looked different back then to the cars that go by the same name today, but then 1955 was a while ago. Certainly, they looked more ostentatious. They looked broadly similar to the older Ford Victoria, with a stainless steel band running over the roofline which extended the B-pillar line from the sides of the car right over the roof. (more…)

The Iconic Toyota Land Cruiser

There are certain vehicles that develop an aura over the years. The Toyota Land Cruiser certainly falls into that category. From a utilitarian beginning, it has become a bit more modern without losing the toughness we all loved.

Toyota has always taken a unique approach when it comes to their model lines. The company prefers to launch a model and then stick with it unlike most other car companies. The Land Cruiser is a classic example. The truck was first designed in 1951 with full scale production beginning in 1954. It has come in versions ranging from convertibles to station wagons. As it closes in on 60 years of production, the Land Cruiser is still the lead SUV model for the company. That’s staying power! (more…)

There are not many people who cannot instantly identify a Ford Crown Victoria. This car has been on the road for several decades already, and tends to be best known for its role as a police car. There is no mistaking this car on the road as it has been the symbol of law enforcement everywhere up until recently. A product of the Ford motor company, this car is a classic in its own way. This car is a full size sedan that first began it’s journey back in the 1950s. Having been around for so many decades, this car is often known as the Crown Vic.

Not only has the Crown Victoria been used as a police vehicle across the nation, it is also commonly found used in other fleets as well. From taxi cabs to business fleets, these cars have dominated that area of transportation. Of course, you will still occasionally find it used as a regular family car. That is the older models though. Classic Cars – Buying Guide to your Ideal Car

Buying your Classic Car

Buying a classic car is fairly straightforward, but you do need to take care in deciding exactly what type of vehicle best fits your needs. It’s no good buying a classic MGB if you want to use the vehicle for family outings (with kids and dogs) to the beach. Equally, a Ford Cortina 1600E might tick all the practicality boxes if you’re a single bloke – but does it have the same effect on your street cred as a gleaming MK2 Jaguar? Key practical considerations therefore need to be: Number of seats, number of doors, hard-top of soft-top, boot space – and even image!

Where to store your classic car

How you store the car is also a major factor. Unfortunately, most ‘old’ cars simply don’t stand up to the weather like new ones, so you’ll need to keep your new classic in a garage or lock-up to maintain its appearance. If, like most people, your garage is full with anything BUT a car you’ll either need to clear it out or factor in the cost of renting a lock-up in your budget. (more…)
