Pack Ahead and Get Some Extra ZZZ’s

Whether you’re going cross country or just away for the weekend, packing the car for a trip can be stressful and time consuming, especially if you have kids or you’re packing an RV, also. But, with a little bit of planning and packing the night before you’re guaranteed to be more prepared and a little less stressed when it is time to leave. Before you begin packing, though, take everything out of your vehicle. This is a great time to clean it out to allow more space for the trip and make sure everything is in good shape, like the spare tire!

Packing the car, or RV, the night before a big trip accomplishes several things. First, it allows you to pack at a leisurely pace so you are not rushed and panicked, leaving you stressed out just before you get behind the wheel. You will be able to hop in your vehicle well rested and relaxed in the morning with your coffee in hand, more able to enjoy the journey, and with more patience to keep the kids happy. (more…)

Motorhome vs. Travel Trailer

Motorhome or travel trailer? If you are venturing out to buy your first RV, or maybe just an upgrade, you have probably already asked yourself that question. There are many advantages and some disadvantages to both. Mostly you need to decide what you want to use your RV to do and where to go and your decision should not be a difficult one.

A motorhome can offer you a little more mobility than a travel trailer. If you travel extensively or are a “full-timer” a motorhome has more of what you are looking for. In a motorhome you will always be in your “home” even if traveling down the highway. Passengers always have full access to beds, kitchen, bathroom, and couch. (more…)

Difference Between RV Classes

A lot of people ask what is the difference between a Class ‘C’ and a Class ‘A’. Let me first start by telling you that Class A’s are typically more money than a Class C. However, both have their advantages and disadvantages, for example the Class A’s seem to have more storage than the average Class C, but the Class C is usually easier to store given the sizes typically max out at 31ft.

Then you have your super C’s but, we wont get into that now. Also, just to point out the obvious, the Class A’s are flat a front-end, like buses and Class C’s have Van front-ends with overhead cabs in them ( beds or entertainment units ). (more…)

Know Your Weight Limit!

Most people who are new to RVing and have just recently bought their first RV may be too excited to get out there on the road that they do not think about how much cargo they are loading. Every unit, whether it is an RV, camper, trailer, or a toy hauler, has its individual weight limits. It’s one thing to have everything you need, but to have too much cargo on a trip can be dangerous. This can be the difference between a safe, enjoyable experience and a disastrous nightmare.

Before you set off on the road, make sure you know the manufacturer weight ratings for your vehicle. These include the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR), Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR), and Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR). Never exceed these weight limits that are set. They are there for a reason. Exceeding them would put a great risk to you and your family. Also note that you can be within the vehicle weight ratings but still exceed the axle rating. To avoid this, weight each axle separately and make sure the weight in your vehicle is distributed evenly. (more…)

Rotary Wankel engines were introduced into road cars by NSU with the Ro 80 and later were seen in the Citroën GS Birotor and several Mazda models. Mazda, beginning with the R100 then RX-2, has continued research on these engines, overcoming most of the earlier problems with the RX-7 and RX-8. (more…)

DIY Magnetic North Reminder — Instant Directional Reminder — Great for RV Users

The following is a good example of why you should have a magnetic direction reminder.

You’re new to the area and your new neighbor of just hours is flinging his arms around giving you directions to his favorite destinations. He points to his left and says go north 6 miles then right about 3 miles you can’t miss it.

Now you have to stop and ask yourself; did they point north or is it merely a gesture? If you had a reminder of which way was north you would know in an instant without getting out your compass or GPS. If you could see your magnetic direction reminder, you could stop your friend and ask if they meant north or direction indicated. (more…)
