Pack Ahead and Get Some Extra ZZZ’s

Whether you’re going cross country or just away for the weekend, packing the car for a trip can be stressful and time consuming, especially if you have kids or you’re packing an RV, also. But, with a little bit of planning and packing the night before you’re guaranteed to be more prepared and a little less stressed when it is time to leave. Before you begin packing, though, take everything out of your vehicle. This is a great time to clean it out to allow more space for the trip and make sure everything is in good shape, like the spare tire!

Packing the car, or RV, the night before a big trip accomplishes several things. First, it allows you to pack at a leisurely pace so you are not rushed and panicked, leaving you stressed out just before you get behind the wheel. You will be able to hop in your vehicle well rested and relaxed in the morning with your coffee in hand, more able to enjoy the journey, and with more patience to keep the kids happy. (more…)

Search for Your Used RV

It is easy to go out and buy a brand new RV if you have a good amount of money to spend. Many of us, however, have found used travel trailers for sale at far better prices than new. Right now is an excellent time to be searching for a used RV, because many owners are having to sell their own to save money, or go gain a little extra to help their financial situation. (more…)

Summertime is for RV Camping!

RV camping is by far the most relaxing, luxurious forms of camping out there. You are able to experience the solitude of nature while still having warm running water, a comfortable bed to sleep in, and a working, flushable toilet. If you have not ever tried RV camping, I strongly recommend renting an RV for a weekend to discover the fun and joys that come with camping in an RV.

If you are on the hunt for a family vacation for this summer that is both affordable and fun you should definitely look into RV camping. Even if you do not think of yourself, or your family, as very outdoorsy it is easier than you think to plan and carry out a camping trip. Renting an RV for your camping trip gives you a full kitchen, air conditioning, plenty of sleeping room, and a place to get out of the elements. It is a simple process; all you have to do is choose the dates of your vacation and what city you wish to pick up and drop off your RV in. (more…)

Weigh Your RV!

Most people who are new to RVing and have just recently bought their first RV may be too excited to get out there on the road that they do not think about how much cargo they are loading. Every unit, whether it be an RV, camper, trailer, or a toy hauler, has its individual weight limits. It’s one thing to have everything you need, but to have too much cargo on a trip can be dangerous. This can be the difference between a safe, enjoyable experience and a disastrous nightmare.

Before you set off on the road, make sure you know the manufacturer weight ratings for your vehicle. These include the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR), Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR), and Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR). Never exceed these weight limits that are set. They are there for a reason. Exceeding them would put a great risk to you and your family. Also note that you can be within the vehicle weight ratings but still exceed the axle rating. To avoid this, weight each axle separately and make sure the weight in your vehicle is distributed evenly. (more…)

Why You Should Buy A RV

One of the greatest freedoms we have in this great country of ours is the freedom to travel: To go where we please when we please. The reason more people do not travel with their families as much as they would like is the hassle and the cost of traveling. With air travel and hotels getting more expensive and restaurants increasing their prices, traveling is becoming more and more difficult. Airlines don’t always fly to where you want to go and if they do the cost of renting a car to get around is extremely high. So if a person wants to travel without breaking their bank account, what options do they have? Travel in an RV.

This is the best way to see and truly enjoy this great country we live in. When you own a RV you get to go where you want without the hassle of checking luggage or going through security checks. Instead of seeing little squares our country from over 25,000ft in the air, you get to experience the country at eye level. There is nothing better than this for viewing the purple mountains majesty from sea to shining sea. (more…)

Camping With RVs Vs Tents

When you finally decide on going camping, the next step is figuring out what type of camping you would want to do, either camping in a tent or choosing to stay in an RV. It all depends on how you feel, whether you want to rough it on the ground or stay comfortable in an RV. Both choices have their pros and cons. For some people it’s not as easy as just flipping a coin, some may think staying in an RV isn’t really camping, while others feel like staying in a tent will just keep you up and unable to sleep.

Cost can be a factor to choosing either option. If you are on a budget, purchasing or even renting tents, sleeping bags, and other accessories that you may need to “rough it” can be much, much cheaper than buying or renting an RV. If you go camping on a regular-basis, however, an RV can be a good investment since it can get you from A to B pretty well and most of the necessities already come with it. (more…)

RV Camping For Pleasure and Fun

Camping for most people means a tent and sleeping on a mat on the ground. If that doesn’t really appeal to you, then camping in an RV is what you need. This is the ultimate outdoor adventure.

RV’s come in many sizes and shapes. They start with campers that fit in the back of a pickup truck. These can have full kitchens, beds, a shower and toilet in them. (more…)

How to Save Money: Maintain Your Own RV

Ask and RV service tech what are the most frequent problems people have when their RV needs service, he will tell you three things. These things are so simple that anyone who owns an RV can save money by doing these little things themselves.

First of all, one of the biggest problems people have is their batteries going dead. Batteries are the key to the electrical system on your RV so they need to be maintained. Don not be fooled, even maintenance free batteries need maintenance. Here is what to do. Check the water in your batteries every three to four weeks. Water evaporates even inside the battery shell. Pull the caps on top of the battery off and refill the cells to about a half an inch below the top of the cell with plain tap water. Nothing will kill a cell in your battery faster than being low on water. This is such a simple thing, yet so many RV owners have the same problem. It can be avoided just by keeping the right water level in the. (more…)
