Whether you’re going cross country or just away for the weekend, packing the car for a trip can be stressful and time consuming, especially if you have kids or you’re packing an RV, also. But, with a little bit of planning and packing the night before you’re guaranteed to be more prepared and a little less stressed when it is time to leave. Before you begin packing, though, take everything out of your vehicle. This is a great time to clean it out to allow more space for the trip and make sure everything is in good shape, like the spare tire!

Packing the car, or RV, the night before a big trip accomplishes several things. First, it allows you to pack at a leisurely pace so you are not rushed and panicked, leaving you stressed out just before you get behind the wheel. You will be able to hop in your vehicle well rested and relaxed in the morning with your coffee in hand, more able to enjoy the journey, and with more patience to keep the kids happy.

Second, it gives you more time to think about what you have packed so you don’t forget anything, and so you can decide whether you really need to bring certain things. To make things easier, make a list for the trip. Separate it into categories and people, and use it as a check list when you’re leaving and want to be sure you’re not leaving anything behind. And, pack backward. What you use first in the car is what you should pack last.

Next, it allows you to plan better for travel activities and food to bring for the drive. Pack simple games the kids enjoy, or their electronics. Watching a DVD or listening to their music will sure keep the kids entertained and the car quiet for a little while! Also, pack an assortment of munchies for throughout the day, and even lunch to save a stop. This will save you money and time on the road if you don’t have to keep stopping for food and drinks, not to mention food and activities keep the kids busy!

One final bonus is that it might buy you a couple of hours of quiet time at the beginning of your drive. If you can leave early enough because the car is packed and ready, pick the kids up out of bed and let them continue to sleep in the car. Just make sure you packed pillows and blankets in the car. You’ll have some peace and quiet to focus on making sure everyone is ready to go and getting the trip started. You can have an easy breakfast in the car, when they wake up, and they can change out of their pajamas whenever, they’re in the car!

Packing the night before will help you get on the road sooner, which means you’ll arrive at your destination sooner!

It is easy to go out and buy a brand new RV if you have a good amount of money to spend. Many of us, however, have found used travel trailers for sale at far better prices than new. Right now is an excellent time to be searching for a used RV, because many owners are having to sell their own to save money, or go gain a little extra to help their financial situation. Buying a used RV is a wise financial move not only right now with the economy, but all the time. RVs and Travel Trailers are known for holding their value for extended lengths of time. In fact, with the market and the economy in the state that it is right now, those finding themselves less well-off financially decide that their RV is the first thing they need to sell. This gives you an opportune time to find used RVs that are in great condition, for sale, and for cheap.

You should always start searching for your ideal RV in your local area. If you are lucky enough to find the right RV, you will save on traveling costs and transport costs. Your lowest price option will be to find a used travel trailer for sale at an auction. Lately, there have been many RVs and other vehicles that have been repossessed by banks and by credit unions. Every month there are many auctions held in every state. You are much more likely to find a good RV at an auction, than waiting for a suitable one to appear in the classified ads. Used RVs for sale are usually sold off at a much lesser price than the market rate. Such RVs are acquired by dealers from the original manufacturer itself or through financial institutions who have repossessed the vehicle from an individual and have sold it off to the dealer at a discounted rate.

People who aim to buy such RVs must keep in mind to carry out a thorough inspection of the RV. It has often been seen that dealers promise their customers that the vehicle is in top condition, but in reality the RV is in more disrepair than one would imagine. If you are in the market for a new or used RV but can’t quite scrape up all the cash, there are several options of RV loans and financing available. If you shop around wisely, you can find many competitive rate loans for general RVs and motor homes. Most companies will finance new and used RV purchases, refinance existing RVs and grant motor home loans.

RV camping is by far the most relaxing, luxurious forms of camping out there. You are able to experience the solitude of nature while still having warm running water, a comfortable bed to sleep in, and a working, flushable toilet. If you have not ever tried RV camping, I strongly recommend renting an RV for a weekend to discover the fun and joys that come with camping in an RV.

If you are on the hunt for a family vacation for this summer that is both affordable and fun you should definitely look into RV camping. Even if you do not think of yourself, or your family, as very outdoorsy it is easier than you think to plan and carry out a camping trip. Renting an RV for your camping trip gives you a full kitchen, air conditioning, plenty of sleeping room, and a place to get out of the elements. It is a simple process; all you have to do is choose the dates of your vacation and what city you wish to pick up and drop off your RV in.

Generally, you pay a certain amount upon making rental reservations and the rest of your payment when you pick up your RV. When booking your campsite, make sure to ask if it has hookups for your RV, which should include water and electricity. A good idea for summer camping is a campsite near the beach, a lake or the springs. Water activities keep everyone cool and happy, especially if you have kids! So don’t hesitate to try something new this summer, you and your kids will not be disappointed.

Many people hesitate to rent an RV for vacations because it may seem like costs can add up quickly. However, RV camping avoids the many costs you would pay on other types of vacations. In fact, there are probably more ways in which the proactive RV rental vacationer can save money than in any other mode of vacation travel. If you choose to travel in what is called the shoulder seasons (in between peak seasons and off seasons) rates can be 20%-40% below peak season rates. Entertainment costs are a lot lower because simply camping is your major source of entertainment. Also, most parks you will be staying in have a wide variety of recreational activities available. RV camping also provides you with opportunity to prepare most of your own meals saving you a great deal on eating out.

Most people who are new to RVing and have just recently bought their first RV may be too excited to get out there on the road that they do not think about how much cargo they are loading. Every unit, whether it be an RV, camper, trailer, or a toy hauler, has its individual weight limits. It’s one thing to have everything you need, but to have too much cargo on a trip can be dangerous. This can be the difference between a safe, enjoyable experience and a disastrous nightmare.

Before you set off on the road, make sure you know the manufacturer weight ratings for your vehicle. These include the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR), Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR), and Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR). Never exceed these weight limits that are set. They are there for a reason. Exceeding them would put a great risk to you and your family. Also note that you can be within the vehicle weight ratings but still exceed the axle rating. To avoid this, weight each axle separately and make sure the weight in your vehicle is distributed evenly.

To find out where you can weigh your vehicle, you can look through the yellow pages under moving companies and/or truck stops. There are different types of scales such as a platform scale that can measure the entire vehicle, a single axle scale that weighs one axle at a time and a segmented platform scale that checks both the whole weight and that of each individual axle. Be sure the place that you do find have the appropriate scales.

When you go to have your vehicle or trailer weighed, make sure everything is loaded as if you were going camping the same day, which means include all passengers, cargo, pets, food, water, clothing, fuel, and propane tanks. If everyone can’t come, bring something that’s approximately the same weight. You don’t want to leave anything out and practically waste the trip to the scales. Once you get there, the weighing process isn’t very difficult, just time consuming. Take your time and make sure you weigh everything correctly.

Not weighing your RV can cause you to damage your vehicle and ruin the trip altogether. Having too much weight can cause a tire to blow and possibly end up in an accident. For the safety of yourself, your family, and your recreational vehicle, follows the weight ratings and you’ll have a great RVing experience.

Some people may ask what a Tent Topped Camping Trailer® (TTCT®) is?

It’s a Tent Trailer – of sorts. They are compact campers inspired by vintage Tent Trailers with a focus on efficiency and simplicity.

A TTCT® is designed to compliment the smaller size of fuel-efficient vehicles. It’s tailored for people seeking to conserve fuel, reduce their impact on the environment, and save money by driving that smaller vehicle. They’re designed to minimize the impact on mileage, performance, handling and braking when towing.

A TTCT® notably expands your available space so the small size of a fuel-efficient vehicle does not have to be a deterrent to camping adventures. It provides you with the space necessary to bring your camping essentials and then some. It takes the approach of supplementing your cargo capacity only when necessary verses driving an eight person SUV with one person in it 80% of the time. I also like the fact that the cost efficiency of driving a smaller vehicle makes it affordable to get out more.

However, it’s more than just a compact trailer; it’s about a simple and “unplugged” way of camping. This is unique to what’s typically promoted by the RV industry today. It is a step back in time to when tent trailer’s focused on the basics, such as a dry roof over your head for sleeping. It is for people who go camping to leave the normal hustle and bustle of life at home and take advantage of the soothing, relaxing and recharging effects a few days in nature has upon the mind and body. It’s about enjoying simple pleasures. Such as, a sunset over the lake, catching sight of a shooting star, smores or scary ghost stories by the campfire.

Camping to us is spending time outdoors. It’s exploring the beauty of nature on foot, bike or kayak. It’s the fresh air and wealth of sensory inputs nature has to offer. It’s cooking over a campfire, how much better food tastes at a picnic table and awaking to the clatter of wildlife. If caught in inclement weather, there is plenty of room to wait out the storm, play a game and stay warm and dry. I have to admit, I just don’t get pulling up in a beastly RV, coming out to setup your satellite dish, and then disappear inside to eat your microwave dinner.

Another key element of simplicity is easy and stress-free setup. You simply remove the cover and pull it open. No assembling and threading poles, no stakes or guide-lines to trip over. There is no unpacking necessary to access your tent. This becomes a huge benefit, when arriving late at a campsite and you just want to go to bed. You can literally pull in, pop it open and jump in bed.

Finally it’s a DIY friendly project. Using plywood, waterproof glue and a few screws it’s easy to create a durable, attractive, lightweight trailer box. This is then mounted on top of a bolt-together frame kit. If you crave the satisfaction of building something with your own two hands and enjoy the outdoors, this is a great way to bring the two together. But be ready, I have yet to take a TTCT® camping and not have visits from fellow campers inquiring; “what is it?”, “where did you get it?” and “can I look inside?” We are never at a loss for conversation wherever we camp.

One of the greatest freedoms we have in this great country of ours is the freedom to travel: To go where we please when we please. The reason more people do not travel with their families as much as they would like is the hassle and the cost of traveling. With air travel and hotels getting more expensive and restaurants increasing their prices, traveling is becoming more and more difficult. Airlines don’t always fly to where you want to go and if they do the cost of renting a car to get around is extremely high. So if a person wants to travel without breaking their bank account, what options do they have? Travel in an RV.

This is the best way to see and truly enjoy this great country we live in. When you own a RV you get to go where you want without the hassle of checking luggage or going through security checks. Instead of seeing little squares our country from over 25,000ft in the air, you get to experience the country at eye level. There is nothing better than this for viewing the purple mountains majesty from sea to shining sea.

You also meet the nicest people traveling in a RV. You meet people who are not angry and stressed out because they were 1 minute late for a flight that wouldn’t wait, their rental car wasn’t ready on time or their hotel was over booked. Instead, you meet people who are glad to be where they are. You meet people who are friendly and considerate and more importantly, relaxed. Couple this with the fact that when you travel in an RV with your family, you strengthen your relationships and create lasting memories for your children.

It is also less expensive to travel in an RV. No smelly hotels rooms, sleeping in a strange bed in a strange place or eating expensive restaurant food. In your RV you sleep in your own bed and eat your own food and you are on your own time table. You have all the comforts of home and none of the hassles of being in a strange place.

No matter where you travel to, from Disney World to the Grand Canyon, you can always find a space in a good RV park at a good rate. Even with the cost of fuel today, when you factor in the price of air travel, hotel expenses, car rental fees and time wasted stranded in airport lines, it is still cheaper to “Go RVing.”

Now is the time to get your best deal on a good Open Range RV and begin to create your family memories. Give your kids something to talk about for years to come that you both and laugh at and enjoy. Find an RV and get on the road. I know you will love it as much as I do.

With over 40 years and three generation in the RV Industry, Palm Beach RV can meet and exceed all your RV needs. With brands like Keystone RV and Open Range RVs you will find an RV to fit your family. Find yours RV at http://palmbeachrv.com

When you finally decide on going camping, the next step is figuring out what type of camping you would want to do, either camping in a tent or choosing to stay in an RV. It all depends on how you feel, whether you want to rough it on the ground or stay comfortable in an RV. Both choices have their pros and cons. For some people it’s not as easy as just flipping a coin, some may think staying in an RV isn’t really camping, while others feel like staying in a tent will just keep you up and unable to sleep.

Cost can be a factor to choosing either option. If you are on a budget, purchasing or even renting tents, sleeping bags, and other accessories that you may need to “rough it” can be much, much cheaper than buying or renting an RV. If you go camping on a regular-basis, however, an RV can be a good investment since it can get you from A to B pretty well and most of the necessities already come with it.

RVs are great for those who absolutely need comfort when they go camping. It gives you the luxury of being at home in campgrounds. RVs have beds, power, showers, running water, pretty much all the necessities of home. Some RVs even have extensions and “patio” areas that help make it feel even more like home. It is also great if you want to go on long trips and/or if you choose to travel with others. You have the chance to stretch out your legs around the RV instead of stopping at rest stops to do so.

Camping in tents have the “ultimate camping experience”. Most people believe that camping is a way to get away from all the technologies and luxury of home. It is an “escape” to most people and a chance to enjoy nature and appreciate what we all have. There are now mats you can sleep in in tents, or even bigger tents that are able to fit at least six people and still have room for a communal area!

Like previously stated, it all depends on the type of camper. Figure out which type of accommodation suits you and your group best and it can mean the difference between having an enjoyable time and a disastrous experience.

Camping for most people means a tent and sleeping on a mat on the ground. If that doesn’t really appeal to you, then camping in an RV is what you need. This is the ultimate outdoor adventure.

RV’s come in many sizes and shapes. They start with campers that fit in the back of a pickup truck. These can have full kitchens, beds, a shower and toilet in them.

Next there are van conversions called Class B motorhomes that are basically a cargo van converted into a camping vehicle. Many even have a rasied roof for more head room. These units, like the truck camper, will have the same amenities.

Next up is the Class C motorhome. The front end looks like a pickup truck, but the similarity ends there. There is a sleeper extension over the cab and the back end looks like any motorhome you are probably familiar with. Basically a cargo box with windows, but much prettier. The Class C has all the amenities of home. A kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room. You could live in a Class C.

The next step us is the Class A motorhome. This is roomiest of all motorized RVs. RVs and motorhomes are like little one bedroom apartments. They are fully self contained. From the queen size bed to a dinette that comfortably seat four, you will find luxury. You even have a microwave oven in addition to a refirgerator and a stove. They can even come with ice makers that can make oper 20 pounds iof ice each day. Party ready!

If that weren’t enough choices, there are still the trailers. First of all, a travel trailer is one you can pull behind a truck or a large SUV. Then the 5th wheel trailer hooks into a hitch in the bed of a pickup truck. Each type of these trailers are as good as the best motorhome. An advantage is they cost a lot less.

You can buy new or used. You should do a lot of reasearch on the Internet whichever way you choose to go. You need to learn as much as you can in regards to RVs. There are RV forums that you can find by doing a search in your favorite search engine.

When you decide that an RV might be for you, attend an RV show or two. There are major RV shows at fairgrounds and stadiums where many dealers and vendors are selling every type of RV there is. There are also local RV shows usually put on by one or two dealers to show and sell some of their inventory.

If you really are not sure you would like to spend $40,000 or $250,000 on a hobby you are not sure you would like, buy a used RV. There are pre-owned RVs you can get into for under $5,000.

Camping in an RV is a fun adventure awaiting you and your entire family.

Florida’s largest Keystone RV Dealer, Palm Beach RV can meet and exceed all your RV needs. Featuring Keystone RVs and Open Range RVs in stock, there is an Travel Trailer for every budget and need. Find yours RV at palmbeachrv.com.

Ask and RV service tech what are the most frequent problems people have when their RV needs service, he will tell you three things. These things are so simple that anyone who owns an RV can save money by doing these little things themselves.

First of all, one of the biggest problems people have is their batteries going dead. Batteries are the key to the electrical system on your RV so they need to be maintained. Don not be fooled, even maintenance free batteries need maintenance. Here is what to do. Check the water in your batteries every three to four weeks. Water evaporates even inside the battery shell. Pull the caps on top of the battery off and refill the cells to about a half an inch below the top of the cell with plain tap water. Nothing will kill a cell in your battery faster than being low on water. This is such a simple thing, yet so many RV owners have the same problem. It can be avoided just by keeping the right water level in the.

Secondly, inspect the roof on your RV at least once every two to three months. Check to see if there are any cracks in the seals or if any seals are rolled up on the edges or even if the roof is dirty. Inspect the seams on the roofing material for cracks or deterioration. If you find any small cracks, fill with a silicone sealant. It is ok to be generous with the sealant as it can not hurt anything. Check the seams on the edge of the roof and make sure there are no visible issues with cracking or seals rolling up. If so coat the area with sealant. BTW, if you do not want to use plain silicone then stop by your RV dealer and get a tube of RV sealant and use that.
Sunlight, heat and all weather conditions will deteriorate the materials that are in contact with the weather most often. When some complains of the roof on their RV leaking, 99% of the time it is because they failed to inspect their roof. Doing this every so often will save you so many problems. It will take less than an hour to do every three months.

The third thing to do that will save you time and headaches is to check your tires and bearings every three months as well. Most new RVs come with EZ Lube axles, or what they call “buddy bearings,” that allow you to lubricate your axles without pulling the wheels. Just plug a grease gun to grease insert in the center of the wheel and pump two or three times. If you still need help, ask a mechanic to help you out.
Check your tires for proper inflation and inspect to check for dry rot. Dry rot will affect every tire at some point and is indicated by hairline cracks in the sidewalls of the tire. If you see these cracks, replace the tires. It will save you lots of time and headaches and you will not get stranded by the side of the road with a flat tire.

The issues mentioned here are the things that cause the most service problems for RVers. By taking a little bit of time to properly service your RV yourself, you will save time and money, not to mention you will cut down on the problems you have at the campsite or on the road. Take the time to look at these things, and enjoy your RV for many years to come.
