It isn’t really a complicated process to do an electric car conversion, it is well within the reach of an average do it yourself enthusiast or any person who does his own car repairs, even if he is not a professional mechanic.

You will need a good set of instructions and have to obtain certain specialized parts, but they are widely available just about anywhere.

Your first consideration is the vehicle that you will do your electric car conversion with. Any vehicle can be converted, but some work better than others.

The best candidates are small cars and trucks as they are light and strong. Try to find the lightest vehicle that will still do the job of transporting you and whatever cargo you want to carry around.

You will want to start with a good looking solid vehicle, as obviously an electric car conversion will not improve its looks, or overcome any other mechanical problems, except for the engine, which will be replaced.

If the engine still runs good you can sell it and help pay for part or all of the conversion, which is surprisingly affordable.

Second, you will want a large DC motor that will produce the power for your electric car. The larger the motor, the more power your electric car will have.

Many people have the wrong impression that electric cars are slow, actually they accelerate as fast as any vehicle on the road, and can easily travel at 50-60 mph.

There are certain places where you can find inexpensive or even free DC motors for your project. AC motors can be used as well but they are more expensive, and the DC motors are also easier to install.

You can, of course buy all these parts brand new, but this is the heaviest cost of the whole project so we suggest using the sources of free or inexpensive DC motors.

Next you will need batteries, you will need to locate about 20 deep cycle batteries for your car. A deep cycle battery is similar to the lead acid battery used in a car, with the exception that they are designed to be repeatedly discharged by as much as 80 percent of their capacity.

A regular battery will soon fail under this strain. The reason you will need 20 batteries is to achieve a range of around 150 miles or more, which is more than adequate for everyday use. There are places where you can find inexpensive or even free batteries.

Finally you will need a controller, battery charger, adaptor kit and various other small parts. A controller is needed to fix the amount of current flowing from the batteries to the motor which determines how fast you go.

The controller is usually connected to your old gas pedal for smooth control of the vehicle. An adaptor joins the motor to the transmission and is another specialized part you will need.

An on board battery charger is best for recharging your batteries, that way you can simply plug it into any common AC circuit and get charged up again. You can opt to just keep an external charger at home if you want, even though it is not as convenient to use and limits your recharge options.

After you have the parts you need it is just a matter of putting it all together. There are many manuals to guide you through the process, but there is a reason that one of them is a top seller.

It not only has the schematics and instructions to guide you through the process, It reveals, and has links to the places where you can find affordable, or even free parts for your electric car conversion.

Why pay thousands for an electric car, when you can build your own for a shockingly low price. Get more information about this amazing Conversion Guide, today.
